A local’s guide to peaceful paths, forest trails, and some of the best loch views in the Trossachs.
One of the best things about Callander? We’re surrounded by lochs — still, reflective, wild, and beautiful. Whether you’re here for a weekend or lucky enough to live nearby, these lochside walks offer a chance to slow down and soak up the scenery.
Here are 6 of our favourites — all within easy reach of the shop.
Flat, peaceful, and postcard-perfect, Loch Lubnaig is a go-to for a reason. The walk can be as long or short as you like — simply follow the shoreline north or south from the laybys or picnic spots.
Why we love it: Reflections of Ben Ledi, picnic benches, and a laid-back feel. Great for dogs, families, and paddleboarders too.
Top tip: Park at the southern layby for quieter starts.
This loch is just a few minutes’ drive from Callander and offers a longer lochside loop. It’s peaceful and packed with great views, especially of Ben A’an and the Trossachs hills.
Why we love it: Woodlands, water views, and fewer crowds.
Top tip: Start from the Invertrossachs Road side for a quieter route and excellent photo spots.
One of the most iconic spots in the area. You can walk, cycle, or even push a pram along the well-maintained track that hugs the loch. Ideal for a big day out.
Why we love it: Wide paths, breathtaking scenery, and the chance to combine with a steamship ride.
Top tip: Start at Trossachs Pier and walk toward Stronachlachar — hop the boat back for a loop with a twist.
This lesser-known loch sits between Venachar and Katrine and offers a lovely, lower-key walk that loops around its perimeter.
Why we love it: Peaceful, scenic, and a great golden-hour walk spot.
Top tip: Park at Tigh Mor or near the youth hostel and follow the trail around.
Technically a reservoir, but with loch energy. This trail gives you a mix of open views, rolling ground, and quiet woodland — part of the wider Glen Finglas estate, managed by the Woodland Trust.
Why we love it: Big views without a big hike. And it’s usually very quiet.
Top tip: Park at the Glen Finglas visitor car park just past Brig o’ Turk.
A little further out, but well worth the trip. This forested area near Aberfoyle has a number of peaceful loops with lochside boardwalks and excellent wildlife spotting.
Why we love it: Magical in the morning mist. Great for kids and well-signed routes.
Top tip: Try the circular route around Lochan Spling — it’s short, scenic, and not too busy.
