Mafana pronounced 'ma-fan-a' with the accent on 'mA' means 'Hot' in Malagasy (the language of Madagascar) and Mafana will certainly be hot! Mafan is a new and exciting brand available at CCW Outdoor Clothing

Mafana aim to deliver a range of high quality hand crafted 'branded' goods to independent UK retailers. Mafana will not compete with its customers and more importantly will promote the brand and its stockists. The product range will initially consist of Bags, Baskets, Hats, Scarves, Ethnic jewellery and some clothing.

BUT there is a big difference between Mafana and normal commercial enterprises.

Mafana will reinvest in the local community producing our goods. If a raffia weaving loom is needed, we buy it. If raw materials are needed we fund them. We think this is a unique approach to production and the supply chain partnership. This approach allows the craftsman of Madagascar to help themselves develop trade in a fair and equitable manner.

Mafana pays fair prices to its producers and works directly with them to improve quality and 'western' desirability. Whilst handicrafts cannot yet be accredited under the Fair Trade system Mafana works to the IFAT '10 principles to Fair Trade - see Fair Trade tab.

A proportion of Mafana's profits are donated directly to Charity projects in Madagascar. Already the founders have provided funds to refurbish two public primary schools in rural areas and the project list is growing! By buying or selling Mafana products you are directly contributing to both humanitarian and environmental projects in Madagascar, one of the poorest countries in the world.

Mafana only source products that are made from sustainable raw materials such as raffia, sisal, leather and zebu horn, a by-product of meat production
